Work with Us!

Fellow Democrats,

Well, 2016 is here and moving along at a rapid clip. There is not only an election on November 8, but North Carolina’s primary has been moved forward from May to March 15 this year, making North Carolina’s earlier primary vote even more important.

This may be the most important election in our lifetime. With all the things the Republican led NC General Assembly and US Congress have thrown at us, we must stand tall and fight as we have never fought before to get things turned around in this great state and in a country that has always stood for ALL the people.

Never in my studies and lifetime has there been so much division, carelessness and recklessness in policies affecting the middle class.

The progress and success of this great experiment, the United States of America, depends upon the return of a strong middle class, along with a way into the middle class for those less fortunate who are willing to work hard to achieve success. Our government—local, state, and Federal—must be for all people and not just the wealthy and top one-percent.

They want to call it conservatism, but it is more than that. Bottom line, it is mean-spirited billionaires and corporations who don’t care about the future of this country and its resources. It’s those who are only happy as long as the dollars keep flowing into their bank accounts at the expense of everyone else.

How do we get out of this situation? We must begin at the grass roots, in families, precincts, boroughs, communities and counties. We must begin by talking and promoting change in the political arena. While we must be concerned with motivating Democrats, we must also include independents and others who are not totally connected to the other party. We must get them out to vote for good candidates who care about the other 99%.

Money in politics is certainly a major problem. When the Supreme Court allowed Super PACs and corporations to support candidates without limits and disclosure, the billionaires were able to buy their chosen candidate’s way into office. We must elect a President and representatives who will change this law and make the playing field level for all of us.

Of course, the change we need is not only money driven, but also attitudinal. We need to elect representatives who really care about our country and ALL the citizens in it. Our elected officials should always work toward making things better and never just leaving it status quo. We need those who will vote their conscience and are not swayed by lobbyists who represent only corporations and the wealthy.

Won’t you join other Jackson County Democrats by volunteering to help make this election work for all of us, not just the wealthy few?  Please let me or one of our county officers know if you would like to help.  There are volunteer opportunities to suit each of us and we are willing to work with you to find something that you will enjoy doing to help elect representatives who care and are ready to serve. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Frank Burrell
