Judges, school board members and the Soil and Water Conservation District Board are also on the ballot. These local offices may not get as much attention, but the people who serve in them have important responsibilities right here in Jackson County.
What Does the Soil and Water Conservation District Board Do?
The Soil and Water Conservation District Board works to protect natural resources, reduce soil erosion and improve water quality.
- Provides free, voluntary guidance to landowners, farmers and communities on land management
- Administers state and federal grant programs, including the North Carolina Agriculture Cost Share Program, to help finance best management practices
- Supports environmental education programs at the county level
Meet John Wittekind
John Wittekind is the current Chair of the Jackson County Soil and Water District Board. He has served on the board for more than 20 years and has demonstrated a strong commitment to Jackson County’s farmers and natural resources.
Soil and Water Conservation District Board members run in nonpartisan races. John Wittekind is a Jackson County Democrat and we urge you to support him in his re-election bid.
